How to use the WhatsApp link generator

1. Phone with country code: enter the WhatsApp number that will receive chats. For India, that is 91 followed by the 10-digit mobile number. You can paste +91 98765-43210; the tool strips the plus sign, spaces and dashes. It does not remove a leading 0, so type 91 followed directly by the mobile number.
2. Prefilled message (optional): type the opening message the visitor will see. The tool encodes it, so spaces, line breaks, emojis and Hindi text survive inside the link.
3. Click Copy link and test it on a phone and on a desktop (which opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app) before publishing.

How a wa.me link is built

A Noida real-estate broker wants a button on a Sector 150 project page. Number: 919876543210. Message, on two lines: "Hi, I saw your ad for 3BHK flats in Sector 150. Is a site visit possible this Sunday?" and "Ref: S150-META". The tool produces:

• https://wa.me/: WhatsApp's official click-to-chat address.
• 919876543210: country code 91 plus the mobile number, without a plus sign, leading zero, brackets or dashes, as WhatsApp's click to chat help page describes.
• ?text=: starts the prefilled message.
• %20 is a space, %2C a comma, %3F a question mark, %3A a colon and %0A a line break. The URL encoder and decoder will turn any of these back into text.

To place it on a website, wrap it in a normal link: <a href="https://wa.me/919876543210?text=...">Chat on WhatsApp</a>. For print, turn the same URL into a QR code.

Writing a prefilled message that gets sent

• Say where they came from. "I saw your Sector 150 ad" tells your team which campaign the lead belongs to without asking.
• Add a reference code. Chats opened from wa.me do not carry UTM parameters into WhatsApp, so a short tag such as Ref: S150-META lets you count chats per campaign. Our guide to WhatsApp lead tracking with GA4 and CRM covers the website-click side.
• Leave blanks for details. "Name:" and "Preferred time:" on separate lines prompt the visitor to fill them in before sending.
• Keep it short. One or two lines read naturally; the visitor can edit or delete the text before sending, so a long paragraph is often cleared.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

• Leaving out the country code (wa.me/9876543210). WhatsApp reads the first digits as a country code and opens the wrong number or none. Always start with 91 for India.
• Keeping a trunk zero (wa.me/9109876543210). Remove the 0 that you dial domestically.
• Using a number that is not on WhatsApp. The link opens, but WhatsApp shows an error instead of a chat. Test with the exact number you publish.
• Editing the link by hand after generating it. An unencoded & or # in the message cuts it off. Regenerate instead.
• Treating a chat as marketing consent. A visitor starting a conversation is not permission for promotional broadcasts later. Read WhatsApp consent and template rules before automating follow-ups.

Practical use cases

• Real-estate broker: a different prefilled message per project page, so the sales team knows which property the buyer wants.
• Clinic: a "Book an appointment" button with "Name: / Preferred date:" lines, answered by the front desk.
• D2C brand: a link in the Instagram bio and order-confirmation email for size and delivery questions.
• Coaching institute: a QR code on admission flyers that opens a chat with "I want details of the 2027 batch".

Links without a number, and business numbers

This generator always needs a phone number.
